Corwin Nelson, PhD

Corwin Nelson grew up on a dairy farm in Hinckley, MN, which is where he developed his passion for dairy farming. He attended the Farm and Industry Short Course program at University of Wisconsin Madison before eventually earning his B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of Minnesota-Duluth and his Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Immunobiology from Iowa State University. He conducted research on vitamin D and immunology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison for three years before joining the faculty at University of Florida in 2013. At UF, he conducted research on vitamin and mineral nutrition and physiology with an emphasis on transition cow immunity, health, and performance. He taught classes on endocrinology, immunology, vitamins, and sustainability. He has been active in leadership with the American Dairy Science Association and currently serves as the Scientific Director of the ADSA Annual Meetings.
Corwin and his wife, Gwen, live in High Springs, FL. They have 7 children who keep them busy with activities. They enjoy outdoor and sports activities together as a family and their favorite getaway is a trip to the mountains to hike and relax with a cup of coffee.
